I’ve found the asterisk details from broadvoice are a little confusing. This web site has a nice succinct setup procedure that you can copy/paste into freepbx.

VMWare Time Drift

April 17, 2007 Leave a comment

VMWare guests can incur significant time drift. Installing VMWare tools enables you to have the guest sync its clock with the host. There is a GUI applet called vmware-toolbox. You can check the “Time synchronization between virtual mmachine and the host operating system.” checkbox to enable it.

If you have a linux server installed without X, you can still install vmware tools, thought it is not as automatic as systems with a GUI. Once it is installed, shut the guest down, and locate the .vmx file for the guest. Look for the line:

tools.syncTime = “FALSE” and change that to tools.syncTime = “TRUE”

You can add the line in if it is not there. Start up the machine and the clock should be correct, or at least in sync with the host system.

Find process id (pid) by name

April 16, 2007 Leave a comment

You can find the pid of Bash by typing this into a terminal:

# ps -ax | grep bash
30892 pts/0 Ss 0:00 bash
12556 pts/0 S+ 0:00 grep bash

30892 is the process id. That last line is the search itself.

View uptime of Windows systems

April 6, 2007 Leave a comment

This is one of those things I should have known by now. A simple command line entry:

net statistics workstation

Returns the uptime (well the date/time the system was last started anyway) and a bunch of network related statistics.

Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer

Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer :: Firefox Add-ons

One thing I missed about the .Mac/Safari combination was the ability to sync bookmarks between computers. Foxmarks seems to be a nice cross-platform alternative for firefox. I’m giving it a try.

Easier blogging from within Firefox

ScribeFire (previously Performancing for Firefox) :: Firefox Add-ons

I just found an excellent Firefox add-on that improves the blogging experience. Needing to log in to wordpress every time I have something to add really cuts down the potential amount of entries for me. This should really help. I am using ScribeFire to add this entry. You just right click on a web page and choose “Blog this page”. It then pops up a half page editor that works better and quicker than the one on wordpress.
